Not far from the Quinta are three world heritage sites; The monasteries of Batalha and Alcobaça , and the town of Sintra to the South.
Roman Catholics will know of Fátima a world renowned shrine to the three children who claim to have seen the Virgin mary. The busy town attracts hordes of pilgrims and one can join in a church service or just soak up the unique atmosphere of an area revered by religious visitors from all corners of the globe.
Children enjoy visiting the grottoes which abound in this area. They are well run and provide a different and educational excursion.
The Royal Óbidosspa and golf resort. designed by Seve Ballesteros lies on the other side of the lagoon and can be reached by car in 45 minutes. The 5 star hotel is becoming one of the most famously glamorous in the world and is a perfect retreat for "golf widows"!
The Silver Coast is also one Portugals most exciting wine-producing regions. Some excellent red and white wines can be sampled via it's wine route.
